Twisting, turning, tipsy caves followed by naturally heated hot springs followed by overnight camping under the stars followed by world-famous Julian Pie. That’s what this weekend is about. Anza Borrego Desert is home to the Arroyo Tapiado Mud Caves, which are hollowed out by the rain and dry up to form caves that can be navigated through by finding the entrance to the caves from a central canyon gorge. These caves are stable and may be big enough to see sunlight peeking through, or small enough for only one person to crawl through at a time. Headlamps from hikers light up the caves; in most caves, headlamps are the only light source. There are hot springs that are man-made outdoor and indoor pools heated by natural springs at the campsite. The famous Julian Pie will serve as breakfast on Sunday morning!
