LOMAD - SoCal Surf

Surfing with new friends as you prepare for your first year at PLNU. Sounds pretty great, right? Whether this is your first time in the water or you've been surfing since you were a grom, this trip will offer something new and challenging for you.  The intent of this trip is to create a shared experience in a beautiful and unfamiliar setting, with unfamiliar people, experiencing new challenges with ample support in order to remind you that you can succeed in your college adventure!  We're with you and the new family you create will help kick start your college career.

LOMAD Mission: The LOMAD First Year Experience trips exist to serve incoming students with an adventure based experience that develops the whole person and sets the framework for their maturation as a future leader at Point Loma Nazarene University. 

LOMAD Goals/Outcomes: Loma Outside remains committed to the following four fundamental principles:

  • Aptitude: a capacity for learning, an ethic of hard work, and skills for self-sufficiency. Students will be empowered to reveal their ability to endure and compassionately connect with others.

  • Physical, Social, and Emotional Care: grace and understanding for self and others. Students by creating an intentional community of belonging.

  • Demand for Excellence: organization, attention to detail, wilderness impact (i.e. Leave No Trace). Students will participate in creating support systems and provided with opportunities to gain self-awareness and insight for themselves, others, and creation.

  • Service and Compassion: Heart for God and others; students will be given the opportunity to connect with God’s creation through activity and reflection.

While your guides have taken care of most details, each student will have the opportunity to lead and be led by their peers over the course of the trip.  Each day, a student will have the opportunity to step into one of several leadership roles.  Come prepared to lead and actively follow.
