Big Sur Backpacking Trip
Big Sur Backpacking Trip
FORM:
If you are still able to fill out this form that means… YOU GOT A SPOT ON THE BIG SUR BACKPACKING TRIP!!! CONGRATS!! Please understand there are limited spots, so if you are unsure about whether you can go or not, please save the spot for someone who is confident they are available and want to go!
COST:
This trip costs $20. That money will help cover gas costs, but does not include meals and gear rentals.
MEALS:
We will not be providing food while on trail; you are responsible for the purchasing, packing, and preparing of your food while on trail. We will be sending out a packing list along with suggested meals to bring, and supples to boil water for your meals. We will be stopping at places on the way there and back. Also, spending a little time in Big Sur, and we will get a meal there together.
DATES:
The trip is from EARLY Thursday morning, 10/23, to Sunday midday, 10/26. There is a mandatory meeting the night before on Wednesday night, 10/22.
TRIP:
We welcome all hikers from all classes, as we are combining this trip with the Loma Outside Freshman backpacking trip, meaning we are able to add 10 more spots! Unfortunately there will not be a fall break freshman only Sierras trip due to weather, but instead we are having one big awesome trip with all grades to hike in Big Sur. The trail we will be doing is to Big Sur Sykes Hot Springs via Pine Ridge Trail, It's around 22 miles spaced out in 4 days. We won’t be hiking more than 7 miles in a day, with an elevation gain of 5,442 ft. It is designed for all hikers and backpackers. The second day we will be hanging out at the hot springs and the last day we will have time in the morning to hangout in Big Sur and enjoy the beautiful Big Sur beaches, and views. It is going to be amazing- hot springs, forest, beaches, ocean views, mountains, all of the good stuff!!!!
GEAR:
Gear rentals are not guaranteed from the ARC since there are other trips happening during fall break. We will do our best to help get you gear and try to help with costs as well. There are other places to rent gear besides the ARC; REI, Facebook Marketplace, and more (we will provide more info on this). Please don't let gear stop you from signing up; there just might be more costs associated with rental. We will also provide a packing list, so do not stress about what to bring.
FRESHMEN:
The Freshman backpacking trip to the sierras is cancelled, and this is the main trip for anyone and all.
DRIVING:
We will be using personal cars to get to Big Sur, so if you feel comfortable driving and have a car, there is a place to mark that on the form. We will probably need just one or two more drivers. We will reimburse you for gas.
